CHAPTER 6: THE OUTSIDE

Bahamut blinked. His wide-open eyes turned to a single direction. The slit pupils contracted. Even with his perception abilities, he still felt the need to directly “look” at what was happening.

…What is that?

The scene unfolding before his eyes should have been impossible. It was one that should have been completely ordinary; it was nothing more than the integration of another universe, the end of another Convergence. That was what it should have been. However, the Dragon Emperor could see two different beings right at the point of connection. They were wildly different in appearance but gave off the same “feeling,” which was why Bahamut needed a few seconds to realize they were from different species. Behind them, countless light-years beyond, the Dragon could see a myriad of different species as well.

Impossible.

The Convergence was a scenario where only one species was allowed to come out on top. The annihilation of all other participants was a necessary requirement for it to end. Since that universe had connected itself to the main one, it was undeniable that its Convergence had ended. How could there be more than one species alive?

Bahamut’s bewildered gaze was drawn to the figure of the less-impressive looking of the two beings at the forefront. The other seemed to be composed of pure energy and emitted a distinct aura that was unlike any that Bahamut had experienced. He didn’t even need to ponder to know that the blue figure was the leader of an Abnormal Species, just like him. However, he felt that he couldn’t look away from the being next to the blue one.

It was simple in design. It possessed four limbs, clearly divided into arms and legs, and stood vertically. Its body was composed of various cells with specific roles. It was a common body archetype. It was no exaggeration to say that it could be found everywhere, among countless different species. This was even evidenced by the blue entity next to it, which had also chosen to have a similar body shape, though it was made of energy.

Then, why?

Why couldn’t he drag his gaze away from it? Certainly, the creature’s body looked much more balanced and even more beautiful than that of any other creature with a similar body shape that Bahamut had ever seen. It could be considered the very peak of that body type, one that neared perfection. But that wasn’t it. The Dragon Emperor wasn’t drawn to the creature’s physical form.

I can’t feel even a bit of power. There is only a strange feeling.

The creature stood next to the leader of an Abnormal Species at the point of connection between its universe and the main one. Therefore, its power shouldn’t be low. Yet, Bahamut couldn’t feel even a sliver of power from it. His pupils contracted further when he realized something else.

I can’t commit his appearance to memory.

It was like trying to look at someone’s face through heavy fog. Even though there was nothing that hindered Bahamut’s vision, even though he
